The Boston Globe today editorializes that Gov. Deval Patrick’s book may prove to be a distraction that takes away from his responsibilities to the state. Not to worry — it’s already finished!

Brilliant work. Where were these guys two years ago? Oh yeah, saving us from Muffy. Thanks!

DK – I’m waiting for somebody – anybody – to draw the parallel between the claim that the book will be written ‘nights and weekends’ with Deval’s early claim that it was OK to make those calls to Ameriquest because it was after 5 pm.Is there a timecard machine we don’t know about on the Third Floor?

PP: From the Globe editorial yesterday: “Patrick says he will be writing the book ‘at nights and on weekends,’ as if he stops being governor after 5 p.m. His wan assurances bring to mind a similar miscalculation he made in his first months as governor, when he made a call to former US Treasury secretary Robert Rubin vouching for ACC Capital Holdings, a company where Patrick had been a board member. Patrick tried to mitigate the furor by saying he had not made the call ‘in his capacity as governor.’ No one begrudges Patrick a personal life or free time. But then, as now, he seems not to appreciate that he is never off the clock.”
