A very smart move

GateHouse Media is launching a free, 25,000-circulation daily on Cape Cod that will be published from late June through Labor Day weekend. As I’ve written before, newspapers need to embrace free, advertiser-supported specialty publications as a way of bolstering the bottom line.

    Yes, indeed. Give the paper away for free and possibly make money.The Boston Globe, too, might survive if it can go down on its price and cut costs including payroll – otherwise go broke and out of business. Win or lose, at least GateHouse is trying on the Cape – and no doubt an annoyance to Cape Cod Times.
