A day to savor the symbolism

For so many Americans of all backgrounds and ages to be asking Obama, by voting for him, to do something about their shrinking 401(k)s, difficult mortgages, increasing health care expenses — that symbolism of turning to an African-American as the person with the skills to help them with their problems in this time of need is also powerful.

DK – will you favour us with the Cliff Notes version of the piece you would have written on the historic significance of electing the first woman to the office of Vice President? As you say, this is beyond politics, so you cannot be writing this merely out of liberal triumphalism…

PP – if Dan finds one in his files from 1984, will you still be blaming it on “liberal triumphalism”?

Steve and PP: I’ve only been blogging since 1986.Seriously, in 1984 I was covering Woburn schools and police for the Daily Times Chronicle.
