Class act

Keith Foulke could have taken the money and run, pitching ineffectively between stints on the disabled list. Instead, he retired and saved his would-be employer, the Cleveland Indians, $5 million.

And don’t tell me you weren’t worried he might come up with one last monster year after leaving the Red Sox. But it’s not to be.

  1. Dan, couldn’t agree more. Refreshing to see someone with some integrity. Despite the last two years of injuries and frustration, Foulke was instrumental in the RS winning in 2004.All he had to do was show up to Spring Training, go through the motions for a few days, and his $5m would have been guaranteed. Instead, he took the high road and retired w/o nailing the Indians. Not too often you see that type of behavior in sports or society.

  2. “And don’t tell me you weren’t worried he might come up with one last monster year after leaving the Red Sox.”Dan, after seeing him pitch last year, I was not at all worried. It’s a shame he lost so much so fast, but if you’re a pitcher who can’t make batters swing and miss, you’re done.

  3. Dan, Does this mark the begining of your Red Sox chatter for the season. In the words of somekid in a movie, “Say it ain’t so.” Please be kind to real fans this year and chime in as little as possible on the Olde Towne Team. You’re a good guy, an smart guy, but not sports savy enough to fool anyone who has more than a passing interest in baseball.

  4. I’ll do it for you, Dan. Drop-Deadlocks was great in the first half, forgettable in the second.

  5. Why Dan, don’t you know I’ve won as many World Series in the last 10 years as the Reds have?

  6. Mike, please solve the mystery of WHY you hate Bronson that much?Dreadlocks can’t be all the reasons why. Why, Mike? How about you give me one yes or no answer, to a very specific question:No matter how crappy you think he maybe or was, do you think yes or know, knowing what you know now that he had a decent season and Sox pitchers tanked last year, do you think it would have been a good deal for the Sox to have kept him on the roster, given the very low salary number he got robbed…errr…scratch that..signed on?Yes or No?N.
