Not to engage in any special pleading on Northeastern University’s behalf. But I keep looking at this photo of a building used to illustrate a blog post claiming that NU has one of “The 20 Ugliest College Campuses in the USA,” and I’m convinced that it’s not at Northeastern.
I could be wrong. I’m not the most visually oriented person in the world. But I think I’m right, and commenters on Digg agree with me. If this is the best evidence they’ve got, can Northeastern truly be said to be ugly?
Mystery solved: Jim Chiavelli, editor-in-chief of the Northeastern Voice, tells me that it’s a building on the Dedham campus. My point exactly.

if i’m not mistaken, that looks an awful lot like the seminary dorms on the grounds of the archdiocese chancery.
It is definitely not any building on their main campus. It’s apparently a building that NEU has in Dedham, and I would say that it is definitely not representative of Northeastern.
Looks like BC to me.
It hasn’t been around long enough for the ivy to grow to full maturity.
I don’t know, I’ll wager no one has had to outrun a mugger lately at the Dedham building. And they still said U Mass Amherst was second ugliest in the country. You have to work at it to make Happy Valley unattractive.
What’s ugly about it? Seriously. It looks like some dorms that we had at Ohio State in the late 196s.–raj
At leat they removed the Nike missiles. Cubis Blandis and all, Northeastern has put a lot more into its appearance in recent years. I don’t think the comment is still valid.
It does have that CCCC (Cardinal Cushing Construction Compnay) look.Bob in Peabody
Any ugly college campus list that doesn’t include the University of Illinois at Chicago is completely illegitimate, IMHO. And where’s UMass Dartmouth in all this?
Dan,Indeed, it is Dedham. I’ve taught there. I don’t think it was built by NU, I suspect it was purchased. Perhaps it was Archdioses property once. There certainly were a lot of blah buildings like that built before NU’s expansion. But it’s not their fault, except for not knocking it down yet.Bill R
