Back when Media Nation was hosted by Blogger.com, many commenters used icons — avatars — with their posts. That seems to have all but disappeared now that I’m using WordPress.

So I just want to point out that avatars are ridiculously simple with Gravatar. Just sign up, do it and your avatar will automatically appear.

It took me a while because I was using two different e-mail addresses. What’s your excuse?

Avatar, schmavatar. This is just a freakin’ PICTURE. A *real* Avatar would let me jump around on other planets.

    Just sayin’.

    My Avatar. Finally!

  3. Lafcadio Mullarkey

Seems like a good place to explain my pseudonym. It’s a combination of Lafcadio Hearn, a person also of Irish descent and Japanese connections, slightly older and more dead than myself, and Monsignor John E. Mullarkey, who presided over the St. Pius Rectory in Lynn in the 1950s and ’60s.

My gravatar has my real first name stamped on his forehead, to distinguish from the recent interloper of the same name.

    DK – how’s THIS???

(A scan of the engraved masthead from a copy of Porcupine’s Gazette, circa 1800)

    Avatar? Pseudonym? Gravatar?

No, this is a real photograph!
