What would Google do?

With apologies to Jeff Jarvis. Google’s YouTube is on track to lose $470 million this year, notes Boston Globe reporter Emily Sweeney on her blog. Why can’t the New York Times Co. find geniuses like that to run the Globe?

Very unlike the NYT/Globe, Google’s core business is well-run, thus it is setting on a metric bleepload of cash and can easily afford to take a longer view of a money-losing operation that it thinks will be very profitable in the future.That’s rather different from losing a pile of money because you have incompetents running a company whose business model is going the way of buggy-whip companies.
