Steve Garfield visits Northeastern

Steve Garfield, video blogger extraordinaire, visited my Reinventing the News class yesterday and did a demonstration on one-person citizen journalism. I tried shooting a video, but naturally Steve came up with something much better.

He shot this with his Nokia N95 and streamed it live to his page on Qik. Please have a look.

His presentation at NEPA earlier this year was extremely impressive. There are a lot of interesting things going on out there. The key is figuring out a way to pay for it all/earn a living from it all.

When I saw a post about someone noteworthy visiting Northeastern, I thought you had finally gotten around to condemning the ugly anti-Sarah Palin comments made on campus this week by Jon S. Leibowitz, a/k/a “Jon Stewart.” Now I realize, what was I thinking?

Ok, Dan. You and Steve have inspired me with the (possibly deceptive) ease of this Nokia moment. Next time I’m out at a meeting darnit, I’m walking around with my Canon making the magic happen. I just hope everyone is as nice to me as your fine students were to Mr. Garfield! Now I just have to figure out this Qik thing…

Geez, that looks like the same room where I used to fall asleep in Prof. Speers’ class, kind of hidden behind a pillar instead of on one.zzzzzzz
