I don’t need to say anything about the Washington Post’s shockingly bad story today about persistent but false rumors that Barack Obama is a Muslim, and about how that may affect his presidential candidacy. Paul McLeary has already hit every low point at CJR.org.
But just to pile on a little — the Post fails to point out that one of the purveyors of religious hatred against Obama, the online magazine Insight, is owned by the Rev. Sun Myung Moon’s Unification Church.

You’re 100% right Dan. Shockingly bad story. The Post’s Perry Bacon singles out Rush Limbaugh for sometimes confusing Osama bin Laden and Barack Obama, as if it’s somehow part of a larger right wing conspiracy, while failing to mention that the most famous example of the Osama-Obama confusion (and by far the most oft replayed soundbite) came from a DEMOCRAT DIETY, Sr. Sen. Ted Kennedy (D-MA). This transcript segment lifted from, drumroll please, the Washington Post.MODERATOR: …what are the most difficult problems he or she will face in 2008? KENNEDY: There you go. Why don’t we just ask Osama bin — Osama Obama — Obama what — since he won by such a big amount. Seriously, Senator Obama is really unique and special. ——-The full transcript is interesting in itself, since at other points audience laughter is denoted as (LAUGHTER) but there is no notation that Kennedy’s disastrous mistake had the audience in stitches (heard loud and clear in the background)or at the very least (LAUGHTER).Lastly, Obama’s Muslim problem isn’t very different from John Kerry’s 2004 Jewish problem. At least Obama acknowledges his potentially problematic (with some voters) heritage, while “Kerry” lied in the Congressional record about being Irish and feigned shock when the Globe easily found that the “devout Catholic” Kerry was from the Jewish Kohn family just a few years back.Kudos to Obama for at least acknowledging the truth.
If he’s not muslim, then who is?
If he’s not muslim, then who is?Who is? Many people are. But he isn’t.
I think Insight is the Washington TIMES’ magazine, not the Post’s. The Times is owned by the Unification Church.
Anon 12:36: The Post story uses Insight as one of its reference points, and it fails to note that Insight is owned by the Unification Church. This gets complicated, but as I understand it, Insight is no longer owned by the Washington Times, even though both are owned separately by Moon.
what is the big about him being a suspected muslim? is being muslim a crime? after reading whats on http://obamamuslim.com I am convinced this is a retarded issue.
