Hundreds turn out for today’s ‘No Kings’ anti-Trump rally in Winchester

Protesters on either side of Mystic Valley Parkway, looking toward the Unitarian church.

We took part in our first No Kings rally today in Winchester, not far from our home in West Medford. After decades in journalism, I’m uncomfortable with any role other than that of an observer, and even today I declined an invitation to carry a sign. I covered two anti-Trump events during his first term for GBH News (here and here), but these days I’m not formally affiliated with any media outlet.

Hundreds of people showed up. Despite the cold, the atmosphere was festive. We were part of a group that walked from the First Congregational Church to the Winchester Unitarian Society, where the main festivities were taking place, complete with music (Public Enemy’s “Fight the Power” was blaring as we approached the Unitarian church grounds), cars honking their support, and someone in a shark costume. We also met a Boston University student covering the rally for Winchester News.

We didn’t stick around until the end, but it was good to see so many people on hand for a righteous cause.
