It’s going to take a miracle to save the Chicago Tribune, the Hartford Courant, New York’s Daily News and six other large-market dailies from the greedy clutches of Alden Global Capital, the hedge fund that’s widely regarded as the worst newspaper owner in the country.

    In fairness, the metro papers up for sale cannot all morph into national papers like the Washington Post. Some could become profitable regionals and partner with smaller outlets around them. Lots of management time and effort and patience to maybe make that work. Would Bezos find that attractive?

      Yes, it’s a totally different challenge — made easier, perhaps, by having the papers run Washington Post content as their wire service and by integrating them with the Post’s CMS and other systems.
