Social media and journalism

Tomorrow I’ll be giving a talk to Northeastern alumni at the Burlington campus as part of the NU@Noon series. My topic will be “Social Media: The Connective Tissue Between News Outlets and Their Communities.” I’ve prepared some slides and plan to riff on them a bit before turning it over to questions. 1. Nice job. My only problem with your suggestions? The one where you tell people not to worry about what they’ve missed on their Twitter accounts!
For someone like me, who must know every little thing, the Twitter account is a major distraction since it never ends … it’s impossible to not worry about what you’ve missed.
It would seem that, at some point, we have to be able to take a break and digest what we’re finding out, even if it is just cheeky, silly gossip stuff. There isn’t enough time in the day, unfortunately.
