Talking about Google and privacy on “Greater Boston”

I’ll be on “Greater Boston” today at 7 p.m., talking with host Emily Rooney about Google’s mounting privacy problems. On Monday, Connecticut attorney general Richard Blumenthal announced that he would lead an effort comprising about 30 states to investigate how Google came to intercept e-mail, passwords and other confidential information when collecting data for its Street View feature.

During the last election cycle when Emily Rooney was participating in political debate as a person asking questions it struck me that she is unreasonably influenced by right-wing talking points, the kind frequently aired on Fox. For people who do not watch Fox, it’s striking just how skewed her questions seemed. I wondered about her judgment.

I find it curious that a proponent of no anonymity on the web (using real names and whatnot) should be at all concerned with privacy.

I mean, doesn’t using a pseudonym give us one more level of privacy?

Can’t have it both ways, my friend.

@BP: Wow. You really need to think this through. I wouldn’t even know where to begin.

I’ll just say this: I am not a proponent of no anonymity on the Web. I am a proponent of people using their real names when commenting on news sites. So we’re talking about 0.0001 percent of the Web.
