Dan, by all other accounts, Mr. Limbaugh is in serious condition, sans the quotation marks. Why do you choose to use that punctuation around the word serious?
Are you quoting someone directly, or casting aspersions on the diagnosis?
I recall being chastised by you, here, some years back for using quotations when I used them in the same manner that you seem to do today. Pot? Kettle?

@Fish: I was using the quotation marks as attribution. I was in a hurry, and I now see that I probably didn’t need to use them. But your complaint would be valid only if you detected some sarcasm on my part. Without even your showing me what I wrote to you way back when, I am confident that’s why I was chastising you.
TMZ was one of the sites I checked last night, though I didn’t link to it. Note the phrase “serious condition,” in quotation marks, attributed to the hospital.

In his honor, let me engage in some reckless, Limbaugh-like speculation: We know he’s had addiction to painkillers and takes Viagra; a careless combination of the two can cause heart troubles. I wonder.
Might also be a good time for wiser heads in the GOP to consider a future without Limbaugh, since he’s the loudest voice and biggest center of gravity the party has. But that assumes wise heads actually exist in the party any more, and I don’t believe that’s the case.

@Joey: Could be just genetics, but cigar-smoking, obesity and crash dieting would all be enough without having to get into the more exotic stuff.

Could indeed be genetics, but if WikiPedia is to be believed, his grandfather died at 104 and was still a practicing attorney at the time of his death. His uncle the judge retired just last year and is still going strong at 82. His father went in 1990 at 72. His mother at 75.
I suspect the ‘ol windbag will be with us for a long time to come.

Also worth noting that the Drudge Report– another paragon of biased journalism trying to pass itself off as truthful and intelligent– has a headline saying ‘Lefties Wish Limbaugh Ill.’ It then links to a Politico.com story where various supposed lefties are in fact wishing Limbaugh a strong and speedy recovery.

Joey, what part of “diverse” escaped you? I would suggest that while patently slanted, (like Boston’s or New York’s “paper of record”), Drudge is merely an aggregator in most cases. Forgetting about which way they lean, do the Times and Globe do the same amount of “journalism” as Matt Drudge? Whose bias affects more readers? Context is everything, eh?

@Rick: You’re quoting from Wonkette? Good grief. Here is Wonkette on Kennedy’s 2007 surgery, which, in light of today’s developments, would appear to be at least as serious as Limbaugh’s chest pains:
Wonkette is as equal-opportunity an offender as there is on the Internet. For Drudge to use it as an example of “lefties” speaking “ill” of Limbaugh is as ridiculous as Politico’s hunting down Twitter hashtags. Proof right there that no one can find any mainstream liberal pundits saying anything nasty about Limbaugh’s health problems.

We need people such as Rush, Ann and James Carville to name just a few.
There’s a lot more going on right here, alone, than what Howie Carr can keep up with.
These political commentators are not so common all over the planet. Some common countries do not even allow Facebook. We are fortunate. Still, a lot could and should be a lot better.

Have I descended into complete cyncism or is it possible that Rush took one too many painkillers again? Even if my suspicion is true, I wish him well. He’s sort of like the boyfriend I know is bad for me, but who I just can’t seem to break up with because he’s so much fun.

@Aunt Nancy: Rush now says there’s absolutely nothing wrong with him. Given that, I think speculation and jokes are definitely in order.

Al – it’s worthwhile to note that Hawaii mandates employer health coverage, and consequently the least number of uninsured of any state except for Massachusetts.
But it’s also worthwhile to note that a person of Limbaugh’s means will probably receive excellent health care where ever he travels.
