A fast-moving Prius

I’ve heard it said that one big drawback to the Toyota Prius is that it has no power. Apparently that isn’t true.

That’s what happens when you dump the Adderall in the gas tank!Actually, it’s not true about the Prius – while it’s no Mustang, you floor the accelerator, the thing goes – I’ve yet to feel like I was about to die in the three months I’ve had one (then again, I’m used to cars like the Prizm and the Focus, so what do I know?).

While much of the media lambastes Mitt Romney for possibly neglecting a dog 20+ years ago, today Al Gore neglects his own troubled son (while minding everyone elses business) yet receives nothing but media praise. Meanwhile, the media critic chooses to write only about the capabilities of the younger Gore’s hybrid car. Priceless.

I have no idea about the Prius, but, I do believe that you have to distinguish between the speed that a vehicle will ultimately be able to come to and the rapidity with which it can come to that speed. The latter is referred to as acceleration. One of the issues with battery powered vehicles is that the ability of the battery to provide increases in current–which determines acceleration–is fairly limited.Your physics lesson for the day.–rajBTW, does anyone HERE know who this idiot Patricia Stebbins is? I’ve asked on several web sites and nobody responds.

That “neglected son” is 24 years old, certainly old enough to make his own decisions. Unlike, say, those neglected Bush daughters, who were still minors when they began their Paris/Nicole rampages and for whom the apple certainly didn’t fall far from the, er, bush.

Fish – lighten up. That was FUNNY!BTW – where are all the outraged posts like when the bush twins were caught drinking beer underaged? Oh, and is HE in the military? Ad infinitum, ad nauseum…

Hey O-fish-l, a long time ago we gave y’all a pass for the lousy job Dubya did teaching Jenna & Barbara how not to be drunken party animals.Don’t make us liberals re-think that decision.BTW, I frequently drive a Prius via Zipcar, they have quite a lot of pep indeed. Although they’re so lightweight, it doesn’t take much engine power to get a move on. However, load ’em up with four heavy people and a bunch of coolers and the Prius will get noticeably less peppy.

I’ve had a Prius for two and a half years now. As others have said, they do have some pep to them… Unlike the VW Jetta deisel I test drove once. Ouch.

Raj,It’s just an Op-Ed. She has the right to an opinion, even if you and I think it is stupid. Perhaps that’s why nobody responds?

The Bush daughters were never cited with any infraction or social behavior close to Paris Hilton. IF you’re going to conflate things and play that game, the next logical step is conclude that Al Gore is a worse father than George W. Bush, because this event trumps any Bush Daughter scenerio. That’s kind of sophomoric though, don’t you think?

Please don’t use “logic” and “George W. Bush” in the same sentence. Ever. In any context. Thank you.

  11. Dan Kennedy

Mike: Logic would suggest that George W. Bush lost the 2000 election, and possibly the 2004 election as well. 😉

  12. mike_b1

A good reporter would find another way to write that, such as: Logic would suggest the GOP stole the 2000 and possibly the 2004 presidential elections.Bush can’t lose something he was never really a part of. 🙂

Adderall, ha ha! It doesn’t exactly have an outlaw rep, but even the responsible milquetoast Prius can reach 100 eventually. I get a ride in one on 128 once or twice a week, and acceleration is the last thing that matters since you spend most of the time crawling between 0 and 20. It’s a boring car but there’s no point in wasting an interesting car on a commute like that, so might as well go for the gas mileage. It’s horrible that you have to waste precious brain cycles paying attention to the stop and go, stop and go. Commuter vehicles should drive themselves, leaving the occupants free to do the crossword puzzle or take drugs. In keeping the automotive connection, I like Stebbins’ gay cart wheel analogy:Homosexual marriage is akin to having two wheels on the left side of the cart and none on the other. Ergo, the cart goes nowhere and contributes nothing, particularly when one of the lefthand wheels keeps going off seeking other carts.Wheels going off, seeking other carts. Excellent. As the New Yorker used to say, block that metaphor!

Mike – please don’t go there. It may open the door to Bush running in the 2008 election and stealing that one too!

Raj,Friends from the Cape say Patricia Stebbins is a local Republican activist. A grandmother who’s been putting her spare time into Faithful Voice and Mass Family Institute/Vote on Marriage. Kind of like the Cape’s version of Carol McKinley.

Dan, I’m disappointed. You find something amusing about Al Gore III’s apparent drug problem. Just read 0-fish-l’s 12:47 a.m. comment. Did you not see that coming a mile a way when you posted this?

  17. Don (no longer) Fluffy

Finally: Logic dictates that George W. Bush won the elections of 2000 and 2004, sour grapes notwithstanding.

anon12:33,In reality, you can see ALL of o-fish-l’s postings coming a mile away. Just listen to WRKO — the ones he doesn’t crib from Howie he borrows from Rush. He hasn’t had an original thought in 20 years.

I’m still chuckling at Al Gore’s watching the final “Soprano’s” episode on a DVD, while enroute to Turkey with Tipper prior to the air date. Concerns over leaking of the finale demanded it be kept, (until he was airborne in his private jet) in the plane’s LOCKBOX which turned out to have been manufactured by HALLIBURTON. Yes, boys and girls, Al Gore really IS better than the rest of us, just deal with it.
